Seven Strategies for Marketing Monetized Podcasts (12 min)
How to Market and Monetize a Video Podcast on VidaFair
Here are seven marketing strategies for marketing and monetizing podcasts on the VidaFair website and app. In other words, after uploading a video podcast to VidaFair, setting your own per-rental creator fee, and posting the link to your own social media feeds. Then what?
After all, not everyone has a huge social media follower base. How will people who aren’t your followers going to know about your new video podcast, so they can rent it, and you can maybe… make some revenue, based on the creator fee you set?
Consider these seven techniques:

The Irresistible Taste:
Create a killer sample clip and upload it to free social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, LinkedIn and Rumble — as well as post to all reverent Reddit subReddits, and share to pertinent Facebook groups. In all these posts, explain that followers can support you by renting the whole episode via the VidaFair link in the description section or Linktree link. A super hot podcast sample clip will do well in the algorithms, and that will produce clicks to your VidaFair link if you ask people to look for it in the description.

The Modern Madmen:
After step 1 above, consider paid promotion of your Irresistible Taste sample. It’s not like the old Mad Men days of advertising that required expensive, multimillion dollar campaigns — you can advertise your podcast’s sample clip on any social media platform for as little as $10 — and that 10 bucks can reach 1,000 people’s eyeballs. So do the math: If 1,000 people see your sample clip, and you can get even just $12 of VidaFair creator fee revenue from those 1,000 people — whether 12 out of the thousand paid got you a dollar, or maybe 6 of them paid you $2 — and it’s all because of an ad that only cost you $10 — you’ve created a scalable formula for both monetization and new fan base growth. Obviously, your ad could do much better than that.

The Bigger Hook:
For some deeper kinds of content, like podcasts on serious issues about which people care deeply, rather than a sample clip, you can offer the first half of the video for free on the social media platforms, then put Part 2 behind the VidaFair paywall. If your Part 1 really reaches people’s hearts and/or minds, they’ll probably want to hear more. Pro tip: Remember that some people might stumble across the Part 2 before seeing the Part 1 — so remember to give them the free Part 1 link in the VidaFair description, so they won’t have to go searching for it.

The Backstage:
For some content, where there’s an official version that’ll be offered for free on a platform like YouTube or Rumble, consider making separate behind-the-scenes, or after hours-style video for your superfans. The Backstage content could be a more personal tone, or candid thoughts about your past and future shows, or footage from a green room. If your main show is interviews, your Backstage show could be your reviews of other interviews online. Or if your main show is your comedy, your Backstage could be your reactions to other comedy work.

The Uncensored:
For a variety of reasons, some kinds of content gets “cleaned up” before being released on YouTube — meaning without controversial language or violent imagery. While VidaFair doesn’t allow videos with porn or child abuse of any kind, VidaFair could be a perfect place for the uncensored versions of true crime stories or war reporting with depictions or discussions of violent acts or self-harm. Another example: VidaFair would never censor medical debates, such as happened during Covid. Use good judgement on this one, but hosts frequently sidestep certain topics in YouTube videos sometimes just because even their mention will hurt the video in the algorithm.
The fact is, some of their viewers might be willing to pay for the unfiltered versions. Just like the previous strategies, a YouTube comment section could offer the VidaFair link to that uncensored paywall version, and a description of it for those bolder viewers who just might be too curious to pass it up. The main video could offer a verbal mention of it as well.

The Sequential Release:
For any kind of content, consider releasing a paywall version first on VidaFair, where renting it costs a small fee, then a few weeks or months later for free on YouTube or other free platforms. This not unlike how Hollywood movies often get released in theaters first — where it costs more — then on streaming platforms later. There will always be a segment of people who’ll won’t mind paying to be the first to see a popular video, and that might be a perfect fit for your content.

The Classic Freemium:
Most classics are classic for a reason. “Freemium” is a word that was invented to describe content where enough has already been given away for free, that super fans feel positivity and gratitude toward the creator and will happily pay for extra paywall shows. The freemium model works best for the kind of content that’s posted regularly, like comedy or podcasts, where creators build a loyal audience by posting free content every week, and then saying something like, “Thanks for watching this free episode. If you enjoyed it and want to support my work, please consider renting my special paywall show every Friday.”
This technique was first popularized with the subscription platform Patreon — but it works just as well if not better with VidaFair’s no-subscription model. Which brings us to another Pro-tip: For creators who already have a Patreon channel, the very same paywall content can be easily posted both places — Patreon and VidaFair — giving viewers the choice of how they want to pay for paywall content. Fans would get to pick between paying via a Patreon subscription, or by VidaFair’s no-subscription monetization model. And generally in business, when you give people more ways to buy something, the result is that more people buy.
No matter what strategy you pick for monetizing your podcast, always remind viewers they’ll be supporting you with every payment. Some creators get shy about asking anyone to pay for anything. But as we like to say at VidaFair, monetizing content isn’t greed; it’s fairness. Good content is hard work. And you may just be surprised at how many people will happily support your work financially, if you’ll simply just give them an easy way to do so, and politely ask.
Good luck and happy monetizing podcasts on VidaFair!
